Check out the latest photos from 1 Clay County’s ongoing cleanup along the historic Goose Creek Riverbank — one of Clay County’s most scenic and storied places.
1 Clay County took on this project because we believe the beauty that surrounds us every day should be seen, shared, and celebrated — by both local citizens and visitors alike. This effort isn’t just about cleaning up a riverbank — it’s about restoring pride, revealing potential, and reshaping how we see ourselves.
Before Clay County was even officially founded in 1807, settlers discovered natural salt deposits right here along Goose Creek — fueling the salt works that supplied frontier Kentucky.
And long before that, this land was crossed by The Warrior’s Path, an ancient route carved by Native peoples and buffalo, connecting the Shawnee to the north and the Cherokee to the south.
By investing in this site, we’re not just uncovering a view — we’re reclaiming a piece of our story. This cleanup symbolizes a bigger movement to change the narrative — not only how outsiders see Clay County, but how we see ourselves.
