Mike White, Executive Director of 1 Clay County, and Terry Gray, Board Chair, joined with Red Bird Mission leaders Tim Crawford, Development Director; James Collett, Interim Executive Director; and Sylvester Nolan, Community Housing Improvement Director to present a check for continued disaster recovery and critical home repair support in our region.
This gift was made possible thanks to the generosity of several anonymous donors who believe in and support 1CC’s mission and initiatives. Their quiet but powerful contributions are helping us meet real needs in Clay County and beyond.
These funds will support the Red Bird Mission Work Camp program, which connects skilled volunteers from across the U.S. with homeowners in southern Clay, southern Leslie, and northeastern Bell counties living below the poverty line whose homes need urgent repair. Red Bird staff screen applications to determine eligibility and prioritize emergency needs like flood damage or medical-related home modifications. With material costs typically ranging from $1,000–$3,000 per home, this program makes houses healthy and safe again while volunteers of all ages spend a week on-site providing repairs and hope for families.
Red Bird Mission has been serving the communities of Appalachia Kentucky since 1921, building healthy, sustainable communities through outreach, affordable healthcare, education, housing improvement, economic opportunity, and emergency support. Red Bird Mission.
